“Love and justice are not pitted against each other; rendering justice is a manifestation of love.” – N. Wolterstorff
We often get caught on the prongs of this debate: Is God love? or is God Just? It’s a false binary. God is love. Everything God does is an expression of God’s character of love.
If you find yourself arguing about some kind of distinction between God’s love and mercy, or the Old Testament and New Testament, or Jesus’ love vs. the Father’s justice… please, stop. Those distinctions are about us, and the tensions we live with. They have nothing to do with the character of God.
Nicholas Wolterstorff is a reformed theologian and philosopher. He’s a serious thinker.
