“I am not called to be successful. I am called to be faithful.” – Mother Teresa
Mother Theresa, the well-known founder of the Sisters of Charity, and a long-time servant of the poorest of the poor in India, was well-known for her focus. These words are a challenge: “I am not called to be successful. I am called to be faithful.”
Everything in our culture is aimed at encouraging us to pursue success. But success that comes at the price of unfaithfulness is disaster. We can be unfaithful to God, unfaithful to our own sense of self, unfaithful to our calling, unfaithful to our family. All of these will undermine and pollute whatever it is we hope to accomplish.
